A New Earth - The New Evolution

Tolle goes on to state that when an organism reaches a point of crisis, it either changes or dies. He alludes to the concept of life on land evolving from life in the sea, stating that fish possibly started venturing onto land and forming lungs and limbs because they were "compelled to do so by some crisis situation" like the growth of land masses that cut off seas.
He states that humanity's dysfunction of adherence to ego's rule has created just such a crisis and that it is time for us to evolve. This evolution is the transformation of our consciousness. It is the realization that we are not our thoughts We are not even the thinkers of our thoughts. We are the ones that are aware of the thinking. We are the space in between the thoughts. Tolle defines the ego as "identification with form, which primarily means thought forms." He states that this is the same definition as evil, though he adds that evil has a relative, but not absolute reality. If it is true that God is the absolute reality, the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, I Am that I Am, then it stands to reason that evil is not an absolute reality and that anything we identify with in form that draws us away from the one, true reality, separates us from it.
This disconnection from our Source, this identification with our beliefs, our thoughts, our egos, is the delusion, suffering, and sin that our religions refer to. As long as we continue to hold to these forms, we will continue making the same mistakes that have burdened us for so long. Tolle said he drew the title of the book from the Bible where it speaks of 'a new heaven and a new earth.' He defines 'heaven' as "the emergence of a transformed state of human consciousness" and 'earth' as "its reflection in the physical realm." This is the evolution that we are experiencing. Some have even stated that the proclaimed second coming of Christ is actually the coming of 'the Christ consciousness.'

Well done synopses of The New Earth! I'm also in the middle of reading it for the second time and am really enjoying participating in the weekly Tolle/Oprah classes. I'm finding that the book resonates much more for me the second time around. Thanks for posting.
